At AboutSkin in Denver we see women AND men who want to improve on their appearance through the use of an ever-expanding market of treatment options. AboutSkin is proud to be among the first in Denver to be able to offer Kybella, the new and unique injectable product for reduction of “double chin” fat. This is a welcome addition to our cosmetic toolbox which includes botulinum toxins for wrinkles of facial expression, fillers for deflated cheeks and folds, lasers for texture, pigment, and redness.
AboutSkin participated in the Food and Drug Administration trials on Kybella, and our very own Dr. Joel Cohen has served on the Scientific Advisory Board for Kythera (manufacturer of Kybella) over the past three years. Dr. Cohen and Dr. Contreras are the ONLY physicians in Colorado who have injected this product in the FDA trial. Dr. Cohen has been selected as the Kybella regional trainer responsible for training other physicians on the proper injection technique.
When submental fat (underneath the chin) becomes excessive, it results in the appearance of a “double chin”. Many patients feel self-conscious about the fullness under their chin, especially the way it affects their profile. This is often most evident in photographs that can make them look heavier than they really are.
Fat reduction, particularly in the area under the chin, has historically been treated either surgically or with liposuction. These invasive procedures with associated recovery time and potential risks have been deterrents to those seeking to treat chin and neck fat.
Fullness under the chin can be associated with excess weight, but it can also be a genetically acquired trait. Even after a successful weight loss program, some patients may not be able to shed the stubborn fat deposits that result in the dreaded “double chin” appearance. Melting this area of fat excess has become reality with Kybella.
Kybella is an injectable solution administered by a trained physician through a needle into the fatty tissue under the chin. The solution works by destroying the fat cell membranes in the “double chin” area. In the FDA trial most patients required an average of 4 treatment sessions spaced 1 month apart. However, we know from our experience that some patients, particularly those with smaller areas of excess fat, may see improvement after 2 or 3 treatments. The safety and effectiveness of Kybella was established in the FDA trials that we participated in.
If you live in or around the areas of Greenwood Village or Lone Tree and you are ready to speak to a professional about Kybella, now is a great time to book an appointment with one of our physicians to find out if Kybella is right for you!
