ABOUT DR. COHEN
Joel L. Cohen, MD (FAAD, FACMS) is an internationally recognized expert on aesthetics and skin cancer. He has lead global task forces on lasers, energy based devices and injectable aesthetic treatments. He has been an author on over 324 medical articles and book chapters. Dr. Cohen has also co-authored 3 hard-cover academic textbooks (including being the lead author on one of the largest books on Botox and other botulinum agents). He is the Director of AboutSkin Dermatology and Aesthetics, as well as AboutSkin Research in metropolitan-Denver, Colorado.
Dr. Cohen has been named a Top Doctor by US News and World Report, as well as 15x Castle Connelly Top Doctor and also 12x Top Doctor in Denver Magazine (called 5280, named for the altitude of the Mile High City). He is a Board-Certified Dermatologist, and is Fellowship-trained in Lasers, Aesthetics Dermatology and Mohs/Dermatologic Surgery.
He is on the teaching faculty of the University of California Irvine as an Associate Professor of Dermatology — where he recently was voted “Faculty Teacher of the Year.” Dr. Cohen has been involved with resident teaching for two decades serving as a preceptor for both the American Society of Lasers in Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), and was credentialed as co-director for a fellowship program.
Dr. Cohen has received many prestigious awards including the Melanoma Research Foundation Humanitarian of the Year Award, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) Public Service Award, the ASDS Patient Safety Hero Award, the ASDS Excellence in Education Award, the ASCDAS Distinguished Service Award and the ASDS Traveling Mentorship and Teaching Award. And he has received the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology Career Achievement Award.
Dr. Cohen has been quoted in many newspapers and magazines including Vogue, TIME magazine, Glamour, Elle, Allure, The New York Times (x4), Reader’s Digest, Shape, Consumer Reports (x9) etc. And he has recently participated in ringing the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange after giving a 10-minute presentation in the NYSE Board Room on sun-protection.
